Tip #5The 10% Factor
by Dr. John Berardi
This weeks tip is one of my favorites, as it takes into account that we’re not perfect, nor are we going to be perfect. In the end, that’s OK!
Here is Dr. Berardi’s thought on the subject:
If some people eat one food not on their plan, their failure to be perfect sets in motion a psychological chain of events that leads to frustration and the inability to get right back on the plan. The all-or-nothing mentality sets in and BAM, they're back to nothing. But it doesn't have to be this way.
100% nutritional discipline is never required for optimal progress. The difference, in results, between 90% adherence to your nutrition program and 100% adherence is negligible. So allow yourself the extra 10% wiggle room. This will allow you the freedom to eat a few extra things not on your menu without the guilt and subsequent crash.

loverespectadmire Dr. JB.
i have to admit I was one of those people.....I'd go off plan for a day or a week and then just give up. Not anymore.....I am eating the healthy way for good this time ;)
new*me,
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and I'm so glad to hear that!
A good analogy that I've heard is this -- if your car has a flat tire, do you throw away the entire car? Of course not! You simply get it repaired and move on.
It's the same thing with watching what you eat. What I particularly like about JB's approach is that he takes into account that we're human and we're going to fall of the wagon. That 10% leeway has made an enormous difference for me!!
Yes this is exactly what I have been saying, although I'm no nutritionist or trainer but you've got to be able to 'veer off' the strict plan every once in awhile and not hammer yourself over it. Great advice. By the way I'll have a website that will be complete at the end of July that will have tons of information on what to eat, if you do need to 'stray' from your plan for a meal.
