Marathon Tip


TEAM DiRTY ReD Marathon Tip #1

As a marathon runner and trainer, I know how important it is to stay hydrated before, during and after training.

Even when you may feel like you are OK after a mile or two, make sure you have your water bottles, belts or stations set up for your convenience and sip away every 20 minutes or 2 miles.

Also, listen to your body and do not deplete it from the appropriate nutrients (carbs) and electrolytes. Carrying "goo" or protein enriched snack bars on those long runs will definitely help!

If you are running and your body needs a rest, TAKE IT! You are building endurance, not injuries . . . so listen to your body, it will talk to you!

Nicol Akins is a wife and mother of two. Yet, despite her marathon schedule she has never thrown in the towel for her passion for running or anything athletic. It is that passion in combination with 11 years in the fashion industry that has motivated her to create DiRTY ReD “Athletic Wear for Women”.

Nicol's love of running that would capture her heart and a 4 year scholarship to the University of Missouri- Columbia. It was there that she would become an 8 time “All Big 8 Runner” and graduate with a degree in apparel Manufacturing and Design.
