Nicole's Journey: Part 4

Start date: 12/27/2009
Starting weight: 240 lbs
Current weight: 239 lbs

So after a few really frustrating weeks, I have finally produced a loss again. WOO HOO!

I am back down to 239 which means I had a 3 pound loss last week from going up to 242.

I struggled with the gain and the guilt and stress that I felt as a result. With Susan's help, I have finally found a rhythm with my nutrition and exercise and will continue on this road. I can honestly say that I'm living proof that stress affects the body in ways I didn't anticipate. I was allowing the stress of not losing, work, home, etc. all get the better of me rather than just keeping everything in perspective and allow my exercise to be my release.

Susan suggested that I get a heart rate monitor last weekend, as well, to keep track of my calories burned and see the true effort I'm putting in. That has been really beneficial. I am still on the same exercise schedule pretty much and was shooting for approximately 3500 calories burned through the week. I will say that keeping up with all the numbers feels a bit overwhelming at times, but I am not going to let myself get "lost" in the numbers.

I am convinced I am now on the right track and am going to continue to allow myself to use my exercise time as my release so that I don't let the everyday stress we all have be counter productive in regard to my goal. I WILL DO THIS and I'm back on my way.

Thanks for the support over the past two weeks and look out for more losin' to come!

I really like the ideal that you tell the truth about your feelings I am so stick of everyone always possitive. Now I don't feel guilty about my not so possitive attitue when I put a few pounds on. Just keep plugging away. Can't be happy all the time. Just say focused.

Nicole, nice work in getting back on track! I have a tendency to agree with lt21 regarding (on rare occasions), but negative emotions are what drive the screw of the downward spiral. Focusing on the positives is what enables forward growth, so keep at it.

I was looking through my blog and remembered a post. It's titled "Stress This" (aka Don't Be Stress' B*tch"..I have a way with words). Take a look when you get a chance.

ps. Take pride in those 3 lbs. Wave bye to those 3 lbs, cause they aint a comin back! I dropped 0.8 lbs last week and I gave those 12.8 ounces "the finger"!

l_t21: I think that I set myself up for failure if I'm not honest with how I'm feeling about the whole process because I'm learning that it's truly a process. I think you have to make an effort to be positive and see the small victories where you find them and not let the scale "rule" ya, if you're anything like me. The numbers make me crazy if I focus on just that piece of the pie. I'm learning to just work hard and let the rest fall into place. ....and let the frustration fuel me to work harder and make it happen.

Mike: I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!! I am not only giving stress the finger, but those 3 pounds as well. ...and about 79 more to boot, in time. ...not that I'm counting or anything! :) I'm taking the good with the bad and just going to continue to work hard. Susan was right when she told me that eventually my body would have no choice to give in and drop some of the weight.

Thanks, as usual, for the encouraging and eloquently worded support. You are awesome!! :)

I would suggest to better handle stress is to meditate once in the morning after getting up and once before bed. Each time for about 15 minutes.

I'm happy to see that you are back on track, but you may run into a hurdle if you stay one one plan. Don't forget to mix it up a bit every few weeks and you will continue to see steady results...this much I can promise.

That's a great point Kyle - you're 100% in that you need to mix up your workouts to keep seeing progress! The Turbulence Training program that Nicole is following are 4-week programs. This week she's moving from the TT for Women workout to the Buff Dudes & Hot Chicks workouts.
